16. Patient Safety
Symposium
Sunday 31 May, 16:00 – 17:30 Room A3
GuestS01 Big on Safety: Key safety recommendations in anaesthesia for the morbidly obese. Symposium organized by The European Society for Peri-Operative Care of the Obese Patient (ESPCOP)
Session description:

As the specialty of anaesthesia moves forward and our patients become more challenging,  improving safety has become an ever more important issue. In preparation for this 90 minutes session, a survey was organized amongst anaesthetists from the three major bariatric societies across Europe and around the world. Each member was asked to give their top five or six tips, that they would pass on to a senior trainee, on providing safer anaesthesia for a morbidly obese patient. Each of the responders had an experience > 500 bariatric surgical cases. The top 20 safety tips have been summarized into 5 areas that will be presented in brief 15 minute sessions followed by discussion. Safety tips will be made available on www.espcop.org
